Bringing Cancer Research in Germany to AACR 2026
From April 19 to 22, the SFB/TRR 417 joined the German Research Foundation (DFG) North America at the Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), representing “Cancer Research in Germany”. Held at the Convention Center in San Diego, California, the meeting brought together more than 23,000 scientists to exchange the latest discoveries across all areas of cancer research, as well as several hundred industry representatives.
In partnership with the DFG, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Academic International Network (GAIN), the iFIT Cluster of Excellence Tübingen, and the SFB 1399, the SFB/TRR 417 provided insights into funding programs and research opportunities in Germany and engaged with the international scientific community. Attendees had the chance to speak directly with Yvonne Reiss, S02 project leader of the SFB/TRR 417, and Ann-Kathrin Mehnert, scientific coordinator, to learn more about the consortium’s science, people, and research structures.
A particular highlight of the visit was an evening reception on April 21, 2026, at the UC San Diego School of Medicine, where the SFB/TRR 417 presented “Cancer Research in Germany” to an audience of researchers, institutional representatives, and DFG-funded Walter Benjamin postdoctoral fellows. The event, kindly hosted by Dean Barbara Jung, offered an engaging setting for in-depth discussions and networking, further strengthening transatlantic ties in cancer research.
The AACR meeting provided an excellent opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions and connect with researchers from across the field. The SFB/TRR 417 representatives left San Diego with fresh perspectives and look forward to continuing these conversations in the future.
